Men in Hull have biggest feet in UK but blokes in Oxford have the smallest, research finds

MEN in Hull have the biggest feet in Britain while those in Oxford have the tiniest, a retailer has discovered.

Shoe Zone compiled its footsie index after analysing sales data at 500 stores across Britain.

It found overall the average size for men is nine and for women six.

But when it comes to huge hoofs, Hull’s fellas are strides ahead, with nearly one in ten buying a size 12 or above in the last year.

They are followed by blokes in Blackpool, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Birmingham, where around five per cent — one in 20 — buy big.

At the other end of the scale, Oxford fellas buy the smallest shoes, with ten per cent taking a size six or smaller.

Milton Keynes, Leicester, Sheffield and Bradford are close behind.

However Milton Keynes is also where women with the biggest feet live — with 15 per cent buying a size eight or larger.

Glaswegian lasses have the smallest tootsies of all, with 29 per cent a size four or below.

Foot specialist Ellie Dods­worth said: “It’s always best to get properly measured to avoid musculoskeletal injuries and skin lesions.”

"Wearing the correct shoe size is very important for a number of things - it sufficiently supports the muscles and joints which helps to stabilise the foot.

Naomi Shefford, of Shoe Zone, said: "Here at Shoe Zone we were curious to see where in the UK we were selling the most of our biggest and smallest sizes.

“We’ve looked at our store sales data, looking at the sales of our biggest and smallest sizes, to find out where in the UK the biggest and smallest feet actually are."
