US diplomat’s wife Anna Sacoolas set to be charged over Harry Dunn’s crash death
A US diplomat’s wife is set to be charged over the crash death of Harry Dunn — with officials considering extradition proceedings within 48 hours.
The news came as Harry’s mum vowed to go to the States if necessary to bring the suspected killer to justice.
American Anne Sacoolas, 42, allegedly smashed into 19-year-old Harry’s motorbike while driving her Volvo on the wrong side of the road on August 27.
The mum of three was spoken to the day after the death crash outside US intelligence hub RAF Croughton, Northants, where her husband Jonathan works as a spy.
But cops had an application to waive her diplomatic immunity rejected and Mrs Sacoolas then fled the country, back to the US. Northamptonshire Police have now passed a file to the CPS to decide on whether to prosecute her for causing death by dangerous driving.
Police and Crime Commissioner Steve Mold said: “I would expect something back within 48 hours.
“This may or may not kick-start extradition proceedings — but this is quite an unprecedented situation.”
Harry’s mum Charlotte Charles, 44, on Tuesday vowed to confront Donald Trump in Washington over the matter. Speaking on ITV’s This Morning, she added: “We won’t stop. We will go over to Washington if we have to. We’ve taken advice from a lawyer on that.
“We will plead with President Trump to look at the laws, look at diplomatic immunity, and hopefully realise it is there to protect diplomats and their families when they are in danger . . . not when they commit such a serious crime as this.”
Petrol station worker Harry’s dad Tim, 50, told how he held his dying son in the road in the aftermath of the crash after being called by an emergency services pal.
He added: “I managed to see Harry, managed to speak to him and comfort him while the paramedics did their work.”
A crowdfunding page to support the family had already passed its £10,000 target on Tuesday night.
