UK weather forecast – Sunny spells today before waves of fresh rain fronts continue to lash Britain
DRENCHED Brits will get a day of respite from the rainy weather today - although fresh waves of showers are forecast to sweep in later this week.
The Met Office says many parts should stay dry today following a soaking Sunday and weeks of flood misery.
Temperatures could even hit the high teens in sunny spots, according to the latest forecasts.
The best of the weather will be in western parts of Scotland, where many will see a cloudless day on Tuesday.
Elsewhere it's expected to remain a largely dry and bright day, forecasters say.
Early morning cloud across much of the country is expected to clear to provide plenty of sunshine to enjoy.
SHOWERS FOR SOME
But not everyone will escape a shower today - with parts of southern England in for brief spells of rain.
The Met Office said: "Sunny spells and a few showers for southern England, whilst western Scotland sees the best of the weather and is largely fine and dry.
"Elsewhere, rather cloudy at first before occasional bright or sunny spells develop for some later."
FLOODY HELL
And tonight will see the recent pattern of severe downpours bringing the risk of floods returning.
Forecasters said of Tuesday night's conditions: "Wet and windy weather with rain, heavy at times, spreads eastwards reaching all but the far east of the UK.
"Clearer, drier conditions follow into Northern Ireland by dawn."
WEDNESDAY WASHOUT
And Wednesday will see a large band of heavy and thundery rain strike nearly all of Britain throughout the day as the UK's floody hell returns.
Forecaster Nicola Maxey said: "We have an unsettled week with quite a lot of rain."
Parts of the UK have already seen more than half of their average monthly rainfall, the Met Office said.
Norfolk in East Anglia has been drenched, with 91 per cent of the county's monthly rain falling already.
In the South West, Wiltshire has also had a wet October, experiencing 89 per cent of its average monthly rainfall so far.

The UK as a whole has seen 55 per cent of its average monthly rainfall, which Ms Maxey said is not abnormal for this time of year.
She added: "When you get into winter, you tend to see long spells of rainfall and it comes across the whole month and it's more evenly spread, but we're in that transition period."

The low pressure system is forecast to start moving across the country on Wednesday night, with a chance of thunder in the West.
Strong winds and locally heavy showers are expected, particularly in the West from Wednesday to Friday.
The Met Office outlook reads: "Windy with sunshine and blustery scattered showers.
"These mainly in the west on Thursday extending to all areas through Friday and Saturday.
"Winds easing on Saturday with temperatures around average."
