Harry Dunn’s distraught parents hit out at ‘lies’ after landing back in UK from Trump visit
HARRY Dunn's heartbroken parents say they have been "lied" to throughout their battle for justice for their boy - after landing from meeting US President Donald Trump.
Appearing on This Morning today, the distraught pair said they would settle for "the truth" on what happened after their son's death.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed during a head-on crash last month with a US diplomat’s wife, said to have been driving on the wrong side of the road.
After the crash Anne Sacoolas headed back to the US claiming diplomatic immunity - a move that sickened Harry's family and sparked an extradition row.
His mum, Charlotte Charles, said: "If justice means not getting her back but the truth, then that's what justice will be.
"Who made the decision to go, why did she think it was right, when did she go, who was involved, because we have been told so many different things.
Local cops have been accused of telling Harry's heartbroken family that Sacoolas had left the country ten days after officers first found out.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab last week admitted there was a delay - but insisted it was "only a day or so".
He told Good Morning Britain: "The Foreign Office said they wanted to basically inform ministers and make sure we clearly understood what we would do next and it was only a day or so.
"I know the police delayed a bit longer and they were responsible for that and I'm sure that at all times, they were thinking about the sensitivities in relation to the family.
"But we certainly didn't want to hold it up materially or beyond a day or so just to make sure at every step, we can communicate [with Harry's family] with a clear footing and a clear position because with the family going through that much grief, that's the responsible thing to do."
And Harry's dad, Tim Dunn, told This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes he wasn't sure they would get the truth from the authorities.
He said: "After our meeting with Dominic Raab I'm very sceptical about that. All I can see is that they lied to us."
While in the US the family met with Mr Trump, who attempted to get them to come face-to-face with their son's alleged killer in an extraordinary White House summit.
The US President even held hands with mum Charlotte as he ambushed her with the prospect of meeting Sacoolas who was waiting nearby - but the grieving couple refused to meet her.
Charlotte said today: "That promise we made to him that night is what's giving us the fire to keep going.
"You don't know how you're going to cope every morning when you wake up, you get that same gripping nausea when you wake up, even if you've slept.
"You don't know how you're going to get through the day, you just keep breathing, you just keep going."
To Sacoolas, she said: "Just get on the plane and come back to the UK. We are not horrible people."
A FCO spokesperson said: “As the Foreign Secretary has said, our hearts go out to the family and we will do everything we properly can to clear the path so that they can get justice.
"The Foreign Secretary told the family in person that we would support them as much as possible and they should not hesitate to get in touch if needed.
"After the Foreign Secretary wrote to the family, a senior official called the family’s spokesman the next day to talk through the letter and offer continuing support.”
