Brit terror victims’ families say ‘good riddance’ and salute US special forces after raid that killed IS leader Baghdadi

THE families of British terror victims yesterday saluted US special forces after their raid killed IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi — saying: “Good riddance.”

Baghdadi, whose fanatics were behind the bombing of a Manchester gig by Ariana Grande, blew himself up as troops hunted him in his Syrian hideout.

Charlotte Campbell’s daughter Olivia, 15, was among 22 killed by IS bomber Salman Abedi at the concert. She said: “If they’ve killed him, good on ‘em. That's another one gone.

“No one will ever forget what they’ve done.

“Nothing will help at all with what I’ve been through but at least they have done a good thing and got one of the leaders.”

President Donald Trump yesterday confirmed that Baghdadi, 48, the world’s most wanted terrorist, died after fleeing into a tunnel as US special forces swooped on his hideout in Idlib.

Baghdadi, who had grabbed his three children, detonated a suicide vest. All four died.

Mike Haines’s aid worker brother David was killed by IS executioner Jihadi John.

He said: “AlBaghdadi was responsible for countless despicable acts. His evil and cowardly beliefs and actions lack any humanity and caused the death of many innocent people including my brother.

PM Boris Johnson said: “The death of Baghdadi is an important moment in our fight against terror but the battle against the evil of Daesh (IS) is not yet over.

“We will work with our coalition partners to bring an end to their murderous, barbaric activities once and for all.”

IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s fanatics are responsible for dozens of British deaths.

In March 2017 Khalid Masood drove into crowds on Westminster Bridge then stabbed PC Keith Palmer. He was among five killed.

On June 3 2017, three IS fanatics killed eight and injured 48 in and around London’s Borough Market before police shot them dead.

British aid workers David Haines, 44, and 47-year-old Alan Henning were both beheaded in Syria after they were abducted by IS.
