A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the five injured had sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is in custody at a South West London police station.

Photos from the scene, just 500ft from Tooting Broadway station, show the glass windows and door of the fast food restaurant shattered, with police officers guarding the scene.

The road was cordoned off but has now reopened.
