They then engaged in “rough sex” on December 18 in 2016 and the mum-of-one’s body was later discovered wearing only a black skirt in Kinver, West Mids.

She was found in a pool of blood at the bottom of her staircase having suffered more than 40 injuries to her head, buttocks and breast.

Broadhurst, a property developer said to be worth £15million, admitted manslaughter by gross negligence and was jailed for three years and eight months in December last year.

But it has now emerged he has launched an appeal against his prison sentence which had been labelled “unduly lenient”.

According to the , he is attempting to have his sentence cut and his case is due to be heard at the Court of Appeal tomorrow.

He has served nearly a year and if successful he could be eligible for release within months.

I'm dumbfounded. John Broadhurst carried out appalling abuse of Natalie Connolly. He doesn't seem to be a very nice piece of work.

Senior Labour figure Harriet Harman said she was “horrified” by the sentence he was given and is understood to be furious about the appeal.

Wyre Forest Parliamentary candidate Mark Garnier is trying to amend the Domestic Abuse Bill following the shocking case.

He told the paper: “I'm dumbfounded. The reality of it is John Broadhurst carried out appalling abuse of Natalie Connolly. He doesn't seem to be a very nice piece of work.

“It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this appeal is going to be.

“Frankly it will be a slap in the face for Natalie, her family and friends if the sentence is reduced. It is simply breathtaking.”

The court heard that Natalie had also suffered horrific internal injuries which were inflicted during a bizarre sex game involving a bottle of carpet cleaner.

Jurors were told how Broadhurst may have wanted to "teach Natalie a lesson" after finding out she had been sending topless pictures to another man on social media.

The trial was told how Natalie called Broadhurst "the boss"; and the pair would regularly enjoy S&M sex sessions during which he would smack her bottom with a belt.

They first started an affair while Broadhurst was in a relationship with his pregnant long term partner before eventually getting together in July 2016.
