HUNDREDS of charities, both big and small, have been put forward by you for special grants from The Sun as we celebrate our 50th birthday.

And now, talkSPORT radio hosts Jim White and Natalie Sawyer have weighed in with their own nominations - with Natalie revealing a very touching reason behind hers.

"I had to really think about this one because there are quite a few charities close to my heart," Natalie admitted live on air this week, while discussing our £1million Sun Readers' Fund.

"But in the end I'm going for the (BHF) and this is all down to the fact that my father had to have a heart triple bypass a few years ago and I just want to have more research into all of that, of course, bear in mind what my father's gone through."

She added: "Actually, most recently, my dad's cousin - who's more like an uncle to us - has had to have a pacemaker fitted so yep, more good work for the BHF.

"That's who I'm nominating."

The BHF funds crucial research into heart and circulatory diseases, and their risk factors.

Jim's nomination went to , a youth education charity that uses the power of football to support disadvantaged young people across Britain.

"I've already nominated a great footballing charity that we've been working with at talkSPORT called Football Beyond Borders," Jim told listeners.

"Everybody's heard of that but that's the one I'm backing.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed."

And Jim and Natalie aren't the only ones getting involved.

TV presenter Angela Scanlon has put forward the mental health charity - which funds pioneering research into mental illness - to receive one of our grants.

While Ben Miller has nominated , which tackles men's health issues: "I am nominating Movember - make sure you get your nominations in too."

And Sun Savers editor Giselle Wainwright has put forward , a London-based charity which collects surplus food and redistributes it to those in need.

Over the last half century, Sun readers have generously donated as much as £100million to charitable organisations that help those in need.

To say thanks, we're making dozens of donations on YOUR behalf over the next year to help the charities that mean the most to you carry out their vital work.

If you haven't already, we'd like you to tell us about the charities you support and nominate them for a donation of between £2,000 and £20,000.

HOW TO NOMINATE YOUR CHARITY

STEP 1.

You have until December 18 but why not do it now.

Your chosen charity must be registered with either the Charity Commission , the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

You must include the charity’s registration number.

STEP 2.

Fill out your name, address and phone number, then give us the details of the charity you are nominating.

STEP 3.

Tell us which of our six categories is relevant to your charity

STEP 4.

Write up to 400 words explaining what your charity does, why it is close to your heart, how much funding your charity needs and what that funding will do.

Tell us about your connection to the charity. Maybe you, your family or friends have received support.  Do you work or volunteer there?

Make sure to tell us what area of the UK or abroad the funds will benefit.

STEP 5.

And finally, the important bit. Tell us how much money you are requesting between £2,000 and £20,000.

Please note there are a limited number of larger grants available.

The Sun Readers' Fund panel, that decides who gets what and how much, will be looking to donate the majority of the £1million as small grants to help as many good causes as possible.
