A WOMAN in her 30s was rushed to hospital after an unknown substance was hurled in her face as commuters were heading to work this morning in North London.

Police raced to the scene on Kentish Town Road in Camden just before 7am following reports of a suspected acid attack.

It is understood she was a passenger in a car when the unknown substance was hurled at a her face.

Police said the woman's skin was doused with water before she was taken to hospital.

London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service both attended the scene before the victim was taken to hospital.

The victim's condition is currently unknown but it is understood her injuries are not life-threatening.

Barista Hiromi Takeuchi, 30, from Hackney, said: "I saw a person lying down by the car and the police were giving them a lot of water.

"The firemen were using their hose on the person. They were spraying a lot of water."

A hazardous area response team (HART) was also called to scene.

The London Fire Brigade sent two fire engines after they were called at 6.52am, a spokesman said.

Firefighters provided initially treated the woman until paramedics arrived.

A woman working in the Owl Bookshop nearby told a customer said she saw a woman "collapse on the floor".

A video from Twitter shows emergency services blocking the road near Boots.

The road reopened at about 9.30am.

Police are still investigating the unknown substance, but it not believed to be acid.

A spokes woman from the Met Police said no arrests have been made as enquiries continue.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6:52am this morning to reports of an incident on Kentish Town Road, Camden.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and our hazardous area response team (HART) to the scene.

"We treated a woman at the scene and took her to hospital."
