Boyfriend, 27, of mum-of-two who was stabbed to death ‘rammed his van into the suspect accused of killing her’
THE boyfriend of a mum-of-two stabbed to death after a car crash rammed his van into the suspect accused of killing her, a court heard today.
Jake Swords, 27, appeared in court this morning accused of trying to kill 27-year-old Lucas Barnard in Rushden, Northants, on Saturday.
Northampton Magistrates' Court heard a fight broke out and his girlfriend Levi Davis, 25, was stabbed to death on the street.
The court was told Swords deliberately rammed his Vauxhall van into the VW Polo car Barnard was in.
Barnard is said to have got out of the car before being run over and pinned between the two vehicles, the court was told.
The prosecution said a fight broke out and Barnard suffered a broken leg.
Swords, of Rushden, Northants, was then arrested and has been charged with attempted murder.
A 27-year-old man - believed to be Barnard - was later arrested on suspicion of murdering mum-of-two Levi and is being kept under police guard.
Chair of the bench Brenda Foster said: “This case will be committed to the crown court in Northampton for the offence of attempted murder.
“The hearing will take place on January 8, 2020. It will be a preliminary hearing.
“Until that time you will be remanded in custody.”
A 13-year-old boy who was initially charged with murder was released without charge on Sunday night.
At around 8.30pm on Saturday, paramedics were called but Miss Davis died at the scene.
All the people involved knew each other and it was "not a random attack", police said.
Superintendent Dennis Murray, of Northants Police, said: "We believe the perpetrators appear to be known to each other. One of the vehicles was a black Volkswagen Polo. The other was a white Vauxhall van.
"We believe she was a passenger. We don't know if she was driving. We are trying to find out what these vehicles were doing.
