The Queen was ‘uncomfortable’ with unmarried Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds staying overnight at Balmoral
THE Queen was “uncomfortable” with Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds staying overnight at Balmoral because they are not married, say sources.
The pair visited the Scottish estate from September 6 for the PM’s annual visit.
Boris, 55, and Carrie, 31, have been in a relationship for around a year, but he is still wed to second wife Marina.
Royal protocol usually bans unmarried couples from staying overnight at the Queen’s residences.
A source said: “Most women of the Queen’s generation simply wouldn’t want an unmarried couple staying with them and sharing a bedroom and she is no different, so it was totally inappropriate of Boris.
"What was perhaps more troubling for the Queen was that he turned up with an unmarried woman who’s young enough to be his daughter. The Queen is the head of the Church of England.
"She felt uncomfortable about it. It’s just not something she approves of.
In the end Brexit turmoil meant the three-night stay was cut to one.
