Christmas travellers battle lines and traffic in frantic last-minute dash across US to get home for holidays

US travelers aren’t feeling the holiday cheer just yet – instead, they’re facing major headaches trying to get home for the holidays.

Americans around the country experienced flight delays, longer-than-average queues, and bumper-to-bumper traffic as millions attempt to make it home in time for Christmas.

At least 51 people were injured after brutal weather conditions caused dozens of vehicles to crash on a Virginia interstate Monday morning.

Thick fog and icy roads led to the massive highway pileup involving 69 vehicles, Virginia State Police said.

Although most of the crash victims escaped with minor trauma, police said two people suffered life-threatening injuries.

More than 100 flights were delayed, and one traveler told the news station that some had to endure the half-mile walk between terminals because shuttle buses were stuck in the floods.
