Woman falls off 200ft cliff near LA while distracted by her mobile phone… and spends night in agony before being rescued

A WOMAN plunged off a 200ft cliff while looking at her phone – and spent 13 hours in agony on the rocky shore until she was rescued.

Police said the hiker, 32, was distracted by the gadget when she slipped over the edge in Palos Verdes, a southern suburb of Los Angeles in California.

She was walking alone on a footpath near the lighthouse when she fell around 7pm on Thursday.

It was not until 8am the next day that another hiker heard her screaming from the bottom of the cliff.

They could not reach her so called 911.

Dramatic video released by Los Angeles County sheriffs shows rescuers abseiling from a helicopter and strapping the unnamed woman to a board.

She was airlifted to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The woman told police she fell while looking at her phone, .

Police lieutenant Doug Kimura said: “She’s lucky that she didn’t succumb to her injuries.

“She’s also lucky that someone heard her screaming with all the wind and noise.”

Last month, heart-stopping video showed a Grand Canyon tourist slipping and almost plunging 1,000ft over the edge while posing for a photo with her mum.
