Wayne Rooney builds full-size football pitch at his £20m ‘Morrisons Mansion’ complete with dug out and changing rooms

WAYNE Rooney has built his full-size football pitch at his new £20million "Morrisons mansion".

The ex-England star has laid down a full-size artificial pitch in his back garden - complete with a seating area.

And the five-a-side football pitch at the home in Knutsford, Cheshire, even boasts changing rooms with showers for his mates.

But Rooney - now with Derby County after a stint playing in Washington - was blocked from installing floodlights because of his mansion's rural location.

The stately Cheshire pile also boasts a garage with his collection of cars, a cinema, swimming pool, and even two man-made fishing lakes.

He was given the go-ahead for the pitch in January last year after he swapped a horse riding arena for an artificial grass pitch.

'MORRISONS MANSION'

Planners at East Cheshire Council ruled Rooney’s revised plans “onside”after there were no objections from neighbours.

But ex-Manchester United star Wayne and wife Coleen were locked in a row with neighbours after they realised how big the home was.

The house - previously mocked for looking like a Morrisons supermarket - will boast and orangery, bar, TV room, snooker room, cinema and wine cellar.

It also has huge indoor swimming pool surrounded by a glass pavilion, a hot tub, plunge pool, steam room and “his” or “hers” changing rooms.

The ex-Premier League star’s pad also boasts an extensive patio, landscaped gardens and a luxury car garage.

It also has a guest toilet too and separate lifts – one for the family, the other for visitors to avoid the social faux pas of using the couple’s own downstairs loo.

It emerged earlier this year that Rooney, 33, paid more than £4million to a Cheshire property developer to build his new £20million mansion.

The Rooneys currently live in a £5million home nearby but are expected to move into their new 40-acre estate later next year.

Rooney is said to have amassed an £82million fortune from his wages, property portfolio and sponsorship deals.

His property portfolio also includes a £5million sprawling Barbados villa, which he rents out for £25,000 a week and a £320,000 waterfront apartment in Florida.

He also still owns his £6million home in nearby Prestbury which he purchased in 2005, however it is not known if he intends to sell it.

Rooney's people have been approached for comment.
