The disturbing video, taken near Gray Whale Cove State Beach, is currently being investigated and the car has yet to be found, according to the publication.

The dark-colored vehicle - identified by as a green Lexus - can be seen driving off the cliff without slowing down in the footage released by the San Mateo County Sheriff's office this week, reports .

Unbelieveably, the car simply disappeared from view when it vanished over the cliff at around 11am on Monday according to one witness.

The driver who was heading south on the highway at the time reported seeing a northbound SUV speed off the cliff.

CalFire, the California Highway Patrol, the San Mateo County Fire Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office scoured the 40-foot deep water below in a frantic search by air, land and sea.

Although tire tracks on the cliff and car parts were found in the water, authorities couldn't confirm they were related to the car which supposedly plunged off the cliff this week.

San Mateo County Fire Department spokesperson Cecile Juliette told "they do find car debris when they go out searching for something like this.”

“Once a car goes over the cliff into the water, they might never find anything even if it did happen," Juliette added. “We can’t say anything conclusively at this point.”

On Monday, a high surf advisory suspended the search which hadn't resumed as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Fox News.

Bert Diaz of California Highway Patrol (CHP) explained the search conditions were "just too dangerous for them to continue a search."

"That’s expected today and for the next couple days as well," Diaz told the publication.

The Sun Online contacted the sheriff's office for comment on Thursday morning.
