Drink driver who killed ‘wonderful’ mum-of-two, 46, is caught drunk behind wheel again just months later
A DRINK driver who killed a mother-of-two when his van hit her car continued to drive over the limit months after he caused the "heartbreaking" fatal crash.
Adam White was eight milligrams over the limit when he caused a multi-vehicle crash on the A16 near Peterborough, killing a "devoted mum" and leaving three other people seriously injured.
In the incident on January 23 last year, White overtook a lorry on the single-carriageway road at 73mph in his Vauxhall Vivaro, forcing a car coming in other direction to take evasive action.
The 38-year-old Lincoln driver failed to see traffic in front of him slowing down and he crashed into the back of a Vauxhall Viva, which was forced off the road from the sheer force of the impact.
White's van veered into the other lane and collided with a Peugeot 3008 which was driven by mum-of-two, Katy Cunningham, 46, from Temple Grange, Peterborough.
Katy sadly died at the scene and her two children, aged eight and 11, who were in the car at the same time, were left with life-changing injuries.
'DEVOTED MUM'
Katy's family described her as a "devoted mum, loving sister, wonderful aunt and an amazing friend."
White was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries and required extensive rehabilitation as part of his recovery.
He was arrested in connection with the crash in December 2019, but further investigations by police revealed that he was also arrested in June for another drink driving offence.
White was - one month before his arrest over the fatal crash.
Tests showed that White had a blood alcohol level of 88 milligrams per 100ml of blood shortly before the crash - eight milligrams over the limit.
When interviewed by the police White admitted that he was driving the van but said he had "no recollection" of what he had done and that he had only drank one bottle of cider.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Peterborough Court on January 6.
The reckless driver was jailed for nine years and disqualified from driving for 10 years at Peterborough Crown Court on January 16.

Sergeant Mark Dollard, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "It is beyond belief that in 2020 we still have to talk about the dangers of drink driving - doing so truly shatters lives and this heartbreaking case is the most recent example of that.
"This case should serve as a stark warning to others about the consequences of driving dangerously or getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol."
