BRITAIN will ditch EU rules after Brexit and businesses must start getting ready now, Sajid Javid has vowed.
The Chancellor told the Financial Times the UK would not be a "rule taker" and firms must now "adjust" to life outside the EU.
He said the Treasury would not support manufacturers that favour staying tied to the bloc's rules.
"There will not be alignment, we will not be a ruletaker, we will not be in the single market and we will not be in the customs union - and we will do this by the end of the year," he said.
And he said that businesses "have known since 2016 that we are leaving the EU" and had already had plenty of time to prepare.
His words come just days before Britain will leave the EU and start official trade talks with Brussels and other countries around the world.
International Development Secretary Alok Sharma told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show earlier: "I’m confident we will end up with a deal which is good for the UK and is good for business."
Bur firms are concerned that the proposals could lead to higher prices and job losses because new rules could make it harder to sell abroad.
Britain's car industry warned it would cost billions of pounds and add layers of extra work to their businesses.
At the moment they are able to sell cars across the EU and the UK under the same rules.

The 11-month transition period will begin as soon as Britain leaves the EU on January 31, and will last until the end of the year.
Bu then the PM hopes to have a trade deal in place with Brussels to ensure that trade can continue smoothly from 2021 onwards.
Businesses have demanded to have "early sight" of ministers' plans to they can get on with getting ready.
