Ryanair claim ‘no technical issue’ on Edinburgh ‘flight from hell’ which saw four passengers fall ill amid oxygen fears
RYANAIR claim there was no technical issue on a "flight from hell" which saw four passengers take ill amid oxygen fears.
We told how holidaymakers were returning to Edinburgh from Budapest when they started
The plane horror unfolded after taking off from the Hungarian capital at 9.50pm.
Terrified Shaun Pinkerton, 27, was one of the passengers who collapsed.
He told us two other passengers required CPR, while he required an oxygen mask and a fourth was sick.
Ryanair claim there was no issue with the flight, other than two passengers taking ill, and the plane landed normally.
Shaun told us he "couldn't believe it" when he heard the airline's version of events.
He insists there were four casualties - and there was "something seriously wrong" with the flight.
He said: "When we got on the plane there was a smoke alarm going off. Three engineers came on and they were all in the cockpit checking it.
"They eventually said 'we'll turn the smoke alarm off and just get on with it.
"But everyone was already in a panic, thinking 'why are you just leaving it and why was it going off in the first place."
The garage manager, from Edinburgh, previously told us: "I was knocked out and needed an oxygen mask.
"There was something seriously wrong with that flight.
"The fire alarm was going off while we were boarding but the flight took off as planned.
"Then the second person went down, then me, and then a fourth.
"There were people standing in aisles giving CPR and they had huge oxygen tanks out.
"I was knocked out and needed an oxygen mask. Then I went into shock and was total shaking."
He added today: "It sounds like they are just trying to minimise it by saying there was only two ill.
"They will be meaning the two that needed CPR but I needed oxygen and went into spasm, and another person was physically sick.
"The turbulence felt like the plane was going to crash to the ground, it was shaking that much.
"And there was no ambulance there when we landed, only the fire service."
Shaun, who has placed a formal complaint with the budget airline, said the ordeal has left him terrified to fly again.
He added: "I'm a young guy, I fly all the time and I'm always fine. There was something seriously wrong with that flight, folk were worrying there wasn't enough oxygen.
