Jeremy Corbyn promises his ‘absolute support’ to Rebecca Long Bailey if she becomes leader

JEREMY Corbyn has offered his “absolute support” to Rebecca Long Bailey if she becomes leader.

Despite vowing not to intervene in the Labour leadership race, the outgoing leader has all but endorsed her in a video with the far-left candidate, who is trailing behind.

Ms Long-Bailey has repeatedly blasted claims she was “Continuity Corbyn”, but now appears to be using the disastrous MP to bolster her faltering campaign.

A poll of Labour members out this week showed Sir Keir Starmer storming ahead of her - and he is tipped to pick up the crown on the first round of voting.

Ms Long Bailey said in the video: “When I’m leader of the party you’ll be supporting me as a green revolutionary and we’re going to have to build that movement outside of the party to pressure this government until the next general election takes place.”

Mr Corbyn replied: “Absolute support.”

He stressed that "can't wait" until the party are back in power under her leadership.

The comments came in a bizarre video where Mr Corbyn revealed he turned the heating off to help the environment.

After Ms Long-Bailey had said “it’s freezing”, Mr Corbyn said: “No, no, this is part of the green industrial revolution.

“I’ve turned the heating off.”

Mr Corbyn had previously vowed: "I won't be saying who I'll be voting for", but has not done similar videos with the other two leadership hopefuls.

With Ms Long-Bailey now set to lose to millionaire Sir Keir, and ally Richard Burgon likely to miss out on the deputy leadership role, he has filmed videos with both of his allies.

The wannabe Labour leader said earlier this month Mr Corbyn would get a top job because she “loves” him.

Rebecca Long Bailey has told supporters she will hand the failed leader a high-level brief if she is party boss.

The shadow Business Secretary rates the outgoing Labour chief “10 out of 10” despite the party’s dismal election result.

Asked if she will give him a government job if she is PM, she said: “I’d like to but I don’t know whether he wants to do it because he said not.”

She added: “It’s up to him. I love him so.”

Labour members are now voting for the new leader, with Sir Keir and Ms Long-Bailey also up against Lisa Nandy.

The winner will be announced on April 4.
