Disney and Netflix halt ALL live-action productions as Apple suspends filming due to coronavirus outbreak
DISNEY and Netflix are pausing production on all of their live-action movies amid fears surrounding the coronavirus outbreak - while Apple is also canning its outside projects.
Disney said "there have been no " on their productions, but "due to the current environment, they think this is in the best interest of cast and crew," Friday.
Netflix has also decided to halt production on all "scripted TV series and films in the US and Canada for at least two weeks," New York Times reporter, John Koblin, .
The decision will affect dozens of shows, including Stranger Things and Grace and Frankie.
Apple, meanwhile, has suspended all filming on projects from outside studios.
This includes The Morning Show and Foundation, as well as See, Lisey's Story, Servant and For All Mankind.
On Thursday, Netflix closed its main LA office on Sunset Boulevard to undergo deep cleaning due to a suspected coronavirus case in the building, according to the .
A source told the LA Times that workers were recommended to work from home.
Some of the Disney affected by the suspension include , which was supposed to begin production in next week — in addition to Home Alone and Peter Pan movies.
Beginning this weekend, Disney will shut down , Disneyland Paris and Disneyland in .
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris will close at the end of the day on Sunday, but their hotels will remain open until further notice.
Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure, which are located next to each other in , will close on Saturday through the end of the month.
Hotels at Disneyland will remain open until Monday so guests can sort out travel arrangements.
Disney Cruise Line is suspending departures starting Saturday.
Disney parks in also responded to the coronavirus outbreak with closures.
The Walt Disney Company says cast members will be paid even while the parks are shutdown.
Other Disney employees — including those who work for Walt Disney Television, Walt Disney Studios and ESPN — have been asked to work from home if possible.
The closures in California come as Gov. Gavin Newsom urged Californians to or more people statewide.
"Changing our actions for a short period of time will save the life of one or more people you know," Newsom said in a Wednesday night statement.
“Each of us has extraordinary power to slow the spread of this disease," he added after California confirmed its fourth death yesterday with at least 144 cases.
