While temperatures plummeted on Monday night to as low as -4C in parts, this will clear quite quickly and the UK is due to bask in wall-to-wall sunshine today.

Most areas will see dry weather though parts of eastern, southeastern and central England will start off cloudier before brightening up, whilst the far north of Scotland will be mostly cloudy.

Temperatures are in line with the average for this time of year, according to Luke Miall, a meteorologist at the Met Office.

Only East Anglia is likely to see some cloud cover, although this is not expected to last long.

Temperatures are due to rise even higher on Wednesday with the mercury touching between 18 and 19C, accompanied by bright, clear skies.

Most parts will once again see some fine, bright, sunny weather although south-west England and southern Wales are expected to see some showers.

It follows a glorious bank holiday weekend where temperatures soared to record highs, with some Brits flouting lockdown rules and heading to parks and beaches to sunbathe.

But Brits were reminded to stay inside and obey the strict government advice despite the warm weather.

And just yesterday, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab warned that the lockdown was unlikely to be lifted anytime soon.
