What is the Justice for George Floyd petition?
On May 25, Minneapolis Police responded to a call that a man had used a forged cheque at a grocery store.
Video footage originally posted on Facebook shows George Floyd in handcuffs with Derek Chauvin's knee on his neck.
Mr Floyd can be heard repeatedly telling officers "I can't breathe".
His pleas were ignored by the officer who asks him: "You a tough guy. Tough guy, huh?"
Mr Floyd goes on to beg the officer in the video, saying: "Don't kill me!"
His death has triggered anger across the globe with protesters taking to US cities to plead for justice.
A petition asking for justice for Mr Floyd has gained over 6,700,00 signatures so far.
It reads: "The officer put his knee on George’s neck choking him for minutes on minutes while George screamed that he could not breathe. Bystanders beg for the police officer to take his knee off George’s neck, but the officer didn’t listen and continued to choke him."
It adds: "We are trying to reach the attention of Mayor Jacob Frey and DA Mike Freeman to beg to have the officers involved in this disgusting situation fired and for charges to be filed immediately."
The officers involved have since been fired and one has been charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
