A YOUNG NHS nurse and her boyfriend died after their car crashed into a tree and burst into flames in the early hours of this morning.
Hannah Elsworth, 22, and her boyfriend Jack Nunn, 24, had dropped off friends only minutes before the accident, which happened on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, at around 1am.
The car, believed to be a white Audi, left the road and smashed into a large road-side tree - roughly 300 metres from where Jack lived - which had bark splitter off and signs of scorching this morning.
A relative said that Hannah was an NHS nurse at Barnsley Hospital, while Jack was a co-owner of JJ Tyres.
She described Jack as a "true gentleman, a hard working man and a true credit to this family".
She added: "You were a lovely couple, grew together and now you can both rest in peace together. I will miss you terribly Jack. Until we meet again."
Locals woken by the loud crash and fire rushed out of their homes and tried to douse the flames with buckets of water.
The collision was attended by paramedics but the two were pronounced dead at the scene, reports.
Police closed the section of the road between around 1am and 1pm this afternoon while traffic accident investigators carried out their inquiries.
Early this afternoon, members hugged one another at the base of the tree where their loved ones died.
Floral tributes were laid at the scene.
