NHS nurse, 22, and tyre fitter boyfriend, 24, killed as Audi crashes into a tree at 1am and bursts into flames

A YOUNG NHS nurse and her boyfriend died after their car crashed into a tree and burst into flames in the early hours of this morning.

Hannah Elsworth, 22, and her boyfriend Jack Nunn, 24, had dropped off friends only minutes before the accident, which happened on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, at around 1am.

Police closed the section of the road between around 1am and 1pm this afternoon while traffic accident investigators carried out their inquiries.

Early this afternoon, members hugged one another at the base of the tree where their loved ones died.

Floral tributes were laid at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: 'We received a report at around 1am (Sunday 21 June 2020) of a collision on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.

"It is reported that a car had collided with a tree. Police and emergency services attended.

"Both the driver and the passenger were sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Enquiries continue."

The force has appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
