Pro-Trump Florida ‘patriots’ group ‘ready to die’ rather than wear masks and say politicians will be ‘punished by God’
A GROUP of Pro-Trump Florida "patriots" said they are "ready to die" rather than wear masks, and said politicians will be "punished by God."
Comments came at a Palm Beach County meeting, when it was unanimously voted that residents will have to wear masks in public to limit coronavirus spread, reported.
"You're not listening to 'We the People,'" Butch Diaz said.
Diaz added: "You already made a decision. You do not care about 'We the People.' It's pathetic."
"It breaks my heart, because I would die for that flag, I would die for this country and I would die for the Constitution. And you guys are supposed to uphold the Constitution.
"Every single one of you has a smirk behind that little mask, but every single one of you are going to get punished by God,” she said, as reported by .
“You cannot escape God. You cannot escape God.
"I’m going to say that again. You cannot escape God," she said.
Another woman wearing a camouflage "Trump 2020" hat said "riots are spreading," and she told the commissioners they were failing by manding masks instead, Raw Story reported.
"Well, guess what, the riots are spreading, too!” she yelled.
“And what the hell are we going to do about that?" she questioned.
"We’re going to arrest patriots for not wearing a mask? That’s what you want?”
She added: "And I say Trump 2020!"
Despite cases in Florida continuing to rise, much of the state has continued to reopen.
Commissioner Gregg Weiss said the decision was based on public health, WPTV reported.
"We didn't pick it," Weiss said, referring to COVID-19.
"It picked us."
Florida is the 7th top state for coronavirus cases across the US.
As of Wednesday, The Sunshine State has reported more than 103,000 cases, with 3,238 deaths.
On June 20, the state reported more than 4,000 new cases – the largest single-day increase since the start of the pandemic.
Yesterday, the state confirmed over 3,300 new cases.
Despite a recent spike in cases, Republican Gov Ron DeSantis has said he has no plans to go under lockdown again, reported.
"We’re not shutting down," DeSantis said at a press conference last week.
"We’re going to go forward we’re going to continue to protect the most vulnerable, we’re going to urge continue to advise, particularly our elderly population, to maintain social distancing and avoid crowds," he added.
