‘Ah, Woods and her Roger Moore eyebrow’: University Challenge captain wins army of fans and even a marriage proposal for her ‘arched’ eyebrow

A UNIVERSITY Challenge contestant hoping to claim victory in tonight's final has scored legions of fans and had two Twitter accounts dedicated to her - all because of her arched eyebrow.

Popular Hannah Woods, captain of Peterhouse College, Cambridge, has become a cult figure in recent weeks thanks to one raised eyebrow which is driving viewers of the show wild.

Woods, who hopes to lead her team to a win in tonight's much anticipated final against St John's, Oxford, has won scores of fans thanks to her eyebrow and even had two accounts created in its honour on social media site Twitter.

The PhD student's withering stare, which could rival that of host Jeremy Paxman, has earned her a bottle of gin, a Valentine's Day card and even a marriage proposal from fans.

Two accounts dedicated to her eyebrow have emerged on Twitter - Browfan, or @woodseyebrow, and Feacetious Eyebrow - with the handle @of_miss_woods. Both feature pictures of the quiz team captain as their profile pictures.

The quiz captain told the Telegraph: "It's absolutely bizarre! I do just have a naturally asymmetric face, but I think it's quite funny that people think I'm being terribly arch."

During recent episodes of the programme, which has been running since 1962 - albeit being off air between 1987 and 1994 when it switched from ITV to the BBC, viewers took to Twitter to express their adoration for Woods - and more importantly, her eyebrow.

While Sam Kelsall @kelsall tweeted: 'Hannah Woods' eyebrow is already primed. It's a power brow. #universitychallenge'.

Another, @tricky1978 said: 'Yes! My favourite Hannah "The Eybrow" Woods. She's the Nigella of Knowledge! #universitychallenge'.

Responding to her legions of fans, Woods tweeted on February 17: 'Having checked my pigeon hole, belated thanks to the University Challenge fan who sent me a Valentine's Day card..!'

Now concentrating on finishing her PhD, she told the Telegraph: "Fans on Twitter have variously suggested future career options from presenting history documentaries to appearing on Game Of Thrones and playing the next Bond villain.

"I'd just like to make it clear to anyone in charge of casting how very available I am."

If Peterhouse win in the final tonight they will score the third consecutive win for Cambridge.

But it is will be a tough competition as their rivals, St John's Oxford, have scored better than them in every round so far.
