Family’s horror at discovering ‘mould’ on the bottom of their takeaway pizza

A FAMILY was left horrified after munching through their takeaway pizza – only to discover it was covered in what appeared to be MOULD.

Lottie Newstead and partner James Shorter decided to treat themselves after getting a leaflet through their door about a new takeaway company.

They ordered a chicken, chicken tikka and sweetcorn pizza and a kebab as part of a meal deal and started tucking in.

But when their one-year-old daughter Olivia-Skye dropped a piece of pizza they noticed a strange colour on the base.

Lottie, 20, of Newhall, Derbys., said: "I'd been pestering James for a kebab all week. We usually have one as a family once a week as a treat.

"I got a leaflet through the door from a new eatery called Tony's Delight. It looked reasonable and I thought I would give the place a go.

"When it arrived I began to unwrap everything. It looked fine and we started to eat it.

"It did taste a little bit funny and I thought nothing of it. However, it was not until my daughter dropped a slice of pizza face down on the floor that I saw it.

"We had eaten about half of it. I was absolutely disgusted."

The furious couple rang the takeaway to complain and got a £19 refund.

But despite getting their money back Lottie said her weekly treat had been spoilt - because her partner has now forbidden takeaways.

She added: "James has banned all takeaways from the house. It has put him off for life.

"It was something I looked forward to every week and can't now. I should have just gone with the regular that we use."

Mr Rafqat Mahmood, owner of Tony's Delight in Midway, said: "There was not any mould. I think it must have been colour coming off the pizza pan."

Lottie reported the incident to South Derbyshire District Council who said: "We will be investigating and arranging to collect the food items in question."
