Photographer captures incredible moment massive great white leaps out the water to devour a bag of bait
The beast was snapped by a dive tour operator in the waters of South Africa preying on baby seals
THIS is the incredible moment a terrifying great white shark leapt out of the water to devour a bag of bait.
Photographer and dive tour operator Rainer Schimpf, 48, captured this beast while shark spotting in Mossell Bay, South Africa.
German-born Rainer also witnessed the shark demolish a helpless baby seal.
He said: "We could see one of the seals swimming away from the island closer to the boat.
"As it swam away we all realised that this was not a good idea for the seal, because the further it swims the higher the risk of being taken away by a predator.
"The seal actually turned around, it looked back to the island as though it was realising this was not a good idea.
"The next second the shark hit the seal and took it out."
Mr Rainer explained a breach attack of this kind is very rare, as there was no bait in the water and the shark was not provoked in any way.
Great whites are equipped with 300 powerful teeth and hit their helpless prey with the same force as a car crash.
He added: "For me personally it was amazing to see, amazing to show our clients what nature is about and how white sharks operate."
