Despite being told to wear comfortable shoes while she heals her school, Harris Academy Falconwood, in Welling, Kent, EXCLUDED her for flouting uniform rules.

Headteacher Terrie Askew said the black trainers were not regulation schoolwear.

Now straight-A pupil Sophie has been told she must wear one shoe to comply with school rules.

The model student faces a month with odd shoes, making her a target for bullies.

Mum Cheryl Razzell, 36, says her daughter has been "humiliated".

She said: "She's been in and out of hospital and had to spend time on crutches and the doctor said she should wear cushioned trainers, because it's important that she's stable on her feet.

"So I went out and I bought her a new pair of trainers - they were completely black.

"Not bright or flashy in any way, but she's now been excluded.

"They asked for a doctor's note so she could wear them, but I spoke to the doctor and he said, 'why do you need a letter? It's seems pretty obvious that she needs to wear trainers.'"

Cheryl eventually got a note from the physician and handed it into the school.

But she claims that the assistant head disregarded the note.

She added: "The school just said, 'no. Policy is policy'.

"Now they've told her that she need can wear one school shoe, and one trainer - it's just crazy.

"The headteacher has even been going over old CCTV footage and looking through to see when and where she's been wearing trainers.

"She feels like she's being persecuted."

Cheryl also claims her daughter was called out for wearing trainers while singing and playing guitar in front of the whole school.

Sophie is due to take her GCSEs and is predicted to get straight A* grades.

Cheryl had considered hiring a lawyer but says she doesn't want to fork out thousands of pounds on the issue just before Sophie takes her GCSEs.

Harris Academy Falconwood have been contacted for comment.
