Shameless benefits mum-of-eight finds part-time work to keep her £31k a year handouts – taking her total income to £37k
OCTOMUM Marie Buchan will keep her benefits because she doesn't exceed 16 hours a week in work
A MUM-OF-EIGHT has landed a part-time job as a mechanic - so she can KEEP her £31,000 benefits.
Marie Buchan, 33, nicknamed Octomum, now does one day a week at the Auto Tyre and Battery garage in Droitwich, Worcs.
She also works part-time as a care worker - but is careful not to exceed the 16 hours a week so she can keep her tax payer handouts.
Her agent Barry Tomes said: “She’s had a lot of stick for not working – now she’s got two jobs.
“Hopefully she’ll get more work at the garage, it’s what she wants to do.
"I’m sure they’ll like having a female mechanic.”
Earlier this month Marie revealed the main reason she accepted her first job in 16 years was to allow her to dodge the benefits cap that limits her handouts to £26,000 a year, it is claimed.
Because she is in work, the £600-a-month rent on her four-bed council house will be paid by taxpayers.
Marie, of Selly Oak, Birmingham, told the Daily Star Sunday earlier this month: “I’m going to have near enough everything
paid.
"I’m not going to have to worry anymore. All I’ve got to do is work Friday ’til Sunday.”
Marie will lose her £183 a month income support but as well as being rent free she will still get £440 a month child benefit and £1,604 tax credits.
And she won't pay anything on her £6,240 a year salary.
A worker would have to earn a whopping £61,000 a year before tax to pocket the same amount of disposable income.
Marie, who started her £7.50 an hour job last week, said her partner will look after their kids while she works.
