Mum of four butchered at home ‘was victim of botched gold burglary’
Saima Khan, said to have been found in a pool of blood by neighbours, was killed while her family attended a funeral
A MUM of four butchered at home while her family attended a funeral was last night thought to have been the victim of a botched gold burglary.
Saima Khan, 34, was said to have been found in a pool of blood after confronting intruders.
An unconfirmed online post about the incident suggested her throat had been slit.
Zaheer Asghar wrote on Facebook: “Last night a sister’s house was burgled.
“The burglars attempted to steal gold.
“The sister, whose name was Saima Khan, confronted them but was hit over the head with a mirror from her hallway.
“Her jugular vein was cut and she sadly passed away.”
The victim and her younger sister Sabah had been looking after her young children at the three-bed semi in Luton, Beds, while other family members were at the local mosque.
Saima’s youngest child, a girl, turned one last week.
She had two other sons aged two and three and a daughter, thought to be aged around seven.
Neighbours were alerted by screaming in the street at 11.30pm on Monday.
One said: “I heard Saima’s mother and aunties screaming.
“They had been to a funeral at Luton’s Central Mosque and came back to see her laying just inside the front door in a pool of blood.
“I heard the younger sister had been upstairs in the bathroom when a burglar got in.”
Police are also looking at the possibility the attack could have been an honour-based killing.
Det Chief Insp Adam Gallop said: “We are treating this as murder.
“We are keeping an open mind as to what led to it.”
