Woman, 58, found stabbed to death in London home as man, 31, charged with murder
A WOMAN was found stabbed to death in her London home as a man, 31, was charged with her murder.
Dawn Bennett died on her 59th birthday after being stabbed at her home in Lewisham, South London.
She was found on June 10 with fatal stab wounds to her chest.
A Metropolitan police statement read: "Officers were initially alerted to welfare concerns for the occupant of an address on Lewisham Way, Lewisham, on Wednesday, 10 June, at about 21:00hrs.
"They attended the address a short time later and found a woman suffering from stab wounds.
"A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was an incised wound to the chest."
Ms Bennett was rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service but died six days later on June 16 - the day she turned 59.
A murder investigation has since been launched.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Met Police said.
He was charged on Friday at Bromley Magistrates' Court and will appear at the Old Bailey on July 10.

"The man in question has been remanded in custody since the day of the incident," a police statement read.

Prior to lockdown, knife crime was plaguing London, with the number of people cautioned or convicted for carrying knives in England and Wales at its highest number in a decade.
Before the pandemic hit, ten people on average were caught with blades every day on the streets of the capital.
