Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first began dating in July 2016 and were pictured holding hands early in the 2017.

The new extracts - - reveal that many in the Royal household were concerned at the pace at which Harry and Meghan’s relationship was going.

According to the book, one senior royal referred to the American actress as “Harry’s showgirl” while another told an aide: “She comes with a lot of baggage”.

A high-ranking courtier was overheard telling a colleague: “There’s just something about her I don’t trust.”

Harry, who is “extremely protective of Meghan”, was “aware of the talk”, a close friend of his said.

They said: “He understands that a lot of people are against them, and he will do everything he can to keep her safe and away from getting hurt — even if that means distancing himself from those people.”

But a close friend of the couple said Harry ignored the gossip and “nothing was going to get in the way of his happiness”.

They added: “He knew Meghan was right for him. Their love was real, and their feelings for each other were genuine. Everything else was noise.”

Harry, 35, and his 38-year-old wife now live in Los Angeles with their 14-month-old son Archie after stepping down from royal duties in March.

The couple and baby Archie are now based at actor Tyler Perry’s £15million Beverly Hills mansion.

The book also claims that Meghan moaned that she "gave up her entire life for this family" and said she was "was willing to do whatever it takes" in her new role.

But it said the couple felt "cut adrift" and frustrated that Wills and Kate got plum official duties.

The couple created headlines worldwide when they revealed they would be quitting the Royal Family in January, completing their final engagements just a few months later before moving to the US.

Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, described as cheerleaders for the pair, are said to have been given access to their inner circle to write Finding Freedom.

The biography has now claimed to give an insight into the couple's decision - with it claimed Harry and Meghan were said to be furious at taking a 'back seat' to senior royals like Charles and William.

The Sussexes moaned they’d taken the monarchy to “new heights around the world” and were held back so they did not “eclipse” the family, it’s claimed.
