“OBSESSED” Prince Harry and Meghan knew they would be “a forever thing” on just their third date, a royal biography claims.
Their whirlwind romance began over a low-key beer and a martini at a London members’ club — and three hours later Harry “was in a trance”.

Royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand say the pair were “in their own little world” as they traded talk about making “change for good”, while sitting on plush “velvet club chairs”.
They did not kiss — and Harry left Soho’s Dean Street Townhouse alone to go home to Kensington Palace that night. But just hours later, newly single Meghan declared to a girlfriend: “Do I sound crazy when I say this could have legs?”
Pals told authors of the book, serialised in The Times and The Sunday Times, the pair were smitten.
The biography, : Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family, below, reveals: “‘Almost immediately they were obsessed with each other,’ a friend said. ‘It was as if Harry was in a trance’.”
Harry and Meghan quickly made plans to meet again just 24 hours later, this time “for a romantic dinner” at the same venue.
The book reveals: “No front entrance for the pair. They were given directions for how to get into the building using a discreet door away from prying eyes — and familiar only to staff and delivery trucks bringing in produce and fresh fish from Billingsgate Market. A glamorous start, it was not.”
Just the one “trusted” waiter served them and the night ended “chastely” again.
But another friend told the biography: “Harry knew they would be together at that point. She was ticking every box fast.”
Meghan had also begun to follow Harry’s @SpikeyMau5 Instagram account, the authors say.
A third evening saw Meghan get a cab from her hotel to Kensington Palace in secret, going through the visitors’ entrance. But such low-key meetings were ditched six weeks later when Harry told her to “arrive in London and he would handle the rest”.
The prince, 35, and Meghan, 38, boarded a flight to Johannesburg the next morning and, after a switch to a private plane, arrived in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
The book notes: “They stayed for most of the trip in one of the $1,957 (£1,500)-a-night deluxe tents.”
Pals tell the book Meghan “came back smiling and just completely spellbound”. They “would have happily spent the entire summer there together”, sources tell the biography.
Bombshell book claims include:
- Harry told Meg 'I love you' first three months into their whirlwind romance
- Anti-paparazzi Meghan CONSPIRED with snappers to set up shots herself
- Harry gave Charles 20 minutes' notice before crushing his Middle East tour
- Harry and Meg secretly got engaged two months before they told the world
Scobie and Durand say Meghan told a pal: “I’ve never felt that safe, that close to someone in such a short time.”
Their syrupy romance is summed up by another friend, who told the biographers: “Technically the getaway was just their third date but by then they were each already dancing around the idea that this just may be a forever thing.”
A series of secret meets followed, with Harry jetting to Canada frequently to stay at Meghan’s two-storey Toronto townhouse.
“For Meghan,” the book claims, “she was all in”. But pals warned her about getting involved with Harry, pointing out his mother Diana’s treatment at the hands of the Royal Family.
In another extract, the biography reveals: “Three months into their relationship, a Meghan friend said they had already begun swapping the words, ‘I love you’.
“It was Harry who said it first, but Meghan immediately replied, ‘I love you, too.’
“From there it didn’t take long for them to begin talking in non- oblique terms about their future.”
The couple went to great lengths to keep their relationship a secret until October 2016, when news first broke that they were an item.
In what now seems like a fateful comment, a royal insider insisted at the time: “Meghan is a very confident and intelligent woman and she’s not overawed mixing with royalty. That’s one of the things Harry admires about her.”
Another senior royal allegedly called the Duchess of Sussex “Harry’s showgirl”, with an aide warning she “comes with a lot of baggage”, it is claimed.
Despite worldwide coverage, stubborn Harry refused to budge from Meghan’s townhouse, where he was staying at the time.
Worried aides said it would be best for him to return home, “his minimal security now something of an issue”, the book claims.
ROYAL ROMANCE
News of the relationship also led to Harry’s first experience of race-hate trolls targeting Meghan online.
Some used the “n-word”, the book says. It goes on: “Harry was incandescent with rage. While it might have been new territory for Harry, bias — both unconscious and intentional — had always been a part of Meghan’s life.”
The book also claims Harry and Meghan secretly got engaged in Botswana — months before they officially told the world they would wed. In August 2017, The Sun’s exclusive photos showed them arriving on holiday in Africa.
At the time, a royal source told us: “Who knows what will happen when they’re watching a sensational African sunset together? Maybe he’ll get down on one knee.”
And yesterday the Sunday Times said Harry’s relationship with his brother began to falter “shortly before” the couple got engaged.
The book claims Harry felt William acted like a snob over Meghan. The Duke of Cambridge is also said to have referred to Meghan as “this girl” and angered Harry by warning him not to rush into a relationship with the actress.
Further details of the Harry and Meghan’s Africa trip are likely to emerge when the book is published on August 11.
In our report at the time we told how Meghan had flown to London from Toronto after filming the last episode of what would be her final series of Suits.
Until now the couple have always claimed their engagement took place over a low-key roast chicken dinner in November 2017.
But the book is expected to reveal their wedding plans were already a done deal.

Quizzed by BBC’s Mishal Husain, Harry claimed: “It happened earlier this month, just a standard typical night.” Meghan replied: “We were just roasting chicken.”

Later she added: “It was just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.” Harry laughed and replied: “Of course!”
Meanwhile, William and Kate hit back at the weekend at claims they snubbed Meghan. Pals said the couple “rolled out the red carpet”.
