A FORMER soldier who was heading on a birthday trip to the cinema got the fright of his life when a lorry wiped out their car on the motorway.
Iain Reid and his wife Tina were driving on the M25 from his home in Hythe, Kent on June 24 last year when the huge lorry moved into the middle lane, side-swiping his motor.
The terrifying incident was all captured on 55-year-old ex-serviceman's dashcam.
Iain told The Sun: “I was driving past the lorry in the centre lane on our way to watch Jurassic World for my 55th birthday.
“I just glanced into the door mirror and could see him drifting across into our lane.
“He hit just behind the petrol tank us causing us to spin round and slam into us.
"It was unbelievable he rammed us backwards 40 meters in to a corn field.”
Iain, who served with the Scots Guards for 12 years rising to the rank of sergeant, went on to tell how other motorists who called 999 thought they'd been killed in the horror smash.
He added: “The police arrived in 15 minutes with about three or four ambulances and five or six police cars.
“A passing driver had called it in as a fatality and to be honest I don’t know how we survived."
In the shocking footage Iain and 52-year-old Tina can be seen driving in the central lane of the motorway.
As they pass the Toyota Motorsport lorry the couple can be heard yelling as the juggernaut ploughs into the car forcing it sideways.
The motor then begins to flip and tumble of the road and down a bank into a field.
When the car overturns the dashcam becomes dislodged and ends up facing the other way revealing the stunned couple's faces.
Iain revealed that they still don't know the full extent of Tina's injuries 11 months on from their terrifying ordeal.
He said: “Both of us hurt our ribs, I slammed into my wife when he hit us.
“We still don’t know how badly injured Tina is 11 months on she’s got to go for a scan
"We only saw the doctor last week and we still don’t know when the scan will be."
Iain, who served in Northern Ireland and Kenya during his time in the army and also spent 18 years in the police force, added that the driver hadn't been charged with the incident but did lose his job with Toyota Motorsport.
He and Tina, who works for the national grid, are hoping for a slightly less eventful birthday this year as the anniversary of the smash approaches.
