PROTESTERS in Portland threw paint bombs at cops after police declared an unlawful assembly and threatened to use tear gas to break up the crowd.
During the 79th night of protesting in Portland on Friday, approximately 300 protestors gathered to march towards the Police Association building when police cut off access to streets leading to their destination.
that officers dressed in riot gear and ordered protesters to leave as cars blocked the streets.
Police told the protesters the street was open to traffic and they would use tear gas or other crowd-controlling tactics if they didn't disperse.
Protesters reportedly did not leave and faced off with officers for 20 minutes.
The crowd stood with wooden shields that had the Black Lives Matter logo on them.
Police declared an unlawful assembly after saying some protesters threw "paint bombs and other projectiles" at police.
A reporter at the scene said the "paint bombs" were "paint balloons."
Officers reportedly stormed the crowd and hit protesters with batons.
As violence escalated and police set off smoke canisters in the crowd, some nearby dumpsters were set on fire, the Daily Mail reported.
One person was allegedly arrested during the incident.

Comissioner Jo Ann Haresty called the officer's actions "unacceptable" on Twitter.
"This is the community the police are sworn to protect and serve," she wrote. "They must uphold Portlanders constitution rights."
Protests in Portland have been consistent since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis over Memorial Day weekend. The protests have been among thousands that have taken place across the nation over the past few months.
