Woman, 44, dies two days after fatal attack at home in Sheffield as suspected killer, 60, is due in court
A WOMAN who was brutally attacked her home in Sheffield has died.
Maria Howarth, 44, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries on Sunday after she was assaulted at a property in Greenhill.
David Bestwick, from Sheffield, was charged with attempted murder on Monday.
Maria died on Tuesday - it is expected that his charge of attempted murder will be changed to murder.
The 60-year-old is currently in custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown court tomorrow.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that a post mortem revealed her death was not due to natural causes.
Officers were called at around 4am to the house.
She was found with life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remained in a critical condition.
A South Yorkshire police spokesperson said: "Our dedicated team of detectives continue to carry out extensive enquiries to establish exactly what happened on the evening of the 5 September into the early hours of 6 September.
