BBC salaries 2020: Full list of what stars get paid revealed

THE BBC has revealed its 2020 list of highest paid stars - showing the gender pay gap is slowly beginning to lessen.

The corporation came under fire three years ago after data showed its biggest male stars were paid more than female colleagues. But who has made the 2020 list and who are the highest earners?

The 2020 list of BBC salaries

The overall gender pay gap at the BBC has decreased from 6.7 percent to 6.2 percent.

Last year saw Gary Lineker top the list of the broadcaster’s highest-paid stars on £1.75m.

The rest of the top five consisted of Chris Evans, Graham Norton, Steve Edwards and Huw Wright.

Here we run through the new list of the corporation's highest earners:

2. Zoe Ball (£1,360,000-£1,364,999)

Zoe Ball helms Radio 2's ever popular Breakfast Show - and her earnings have jumped up by nearly £1million since the last figure were revealed.

2018/2019: £370,000-£374,999

3. Graham Norton (£725,000-£729,000)

Comedian and host Graham Norton hosts a weekly show on Radio 2, a range of programmes and series such as The Graham Norton Show and hosts the British Film and Television Awards (Baftas).

4. Steve Wright (£475,000-£479,999)

Long-time DJ of Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon and Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs. His estimated earnings have gone up by at least £20,000.

5. Huw Edwards (£465,000-£469,999)

News anchor Huw Edwards News at Six and News at Ten, presenting on BBC One and the News Channel, election night and news specials. His estimated yearly salary has dropped by around £30,000.

2018/2019: £490,000-£494,999

6. Fiona Bruce (£450,000-£454,999)

Former new anchor Fiona Bruce is now the face of Question Time and presents various shows on BBC One.

7. Vanessa Feltz (£405,000-£409,999)

Vanessa Feltz hosts the Radio 2 early Breakfast Show and the Radio London Breakfast Show, as well as providing cover for various Radio 2 shows.

8. Lauren Laverne (£395,000 - £399,999)

Music expert and former member of band Kenickie, Lauren Laverne helms the BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show, 6 Music Recommends as well as Radio 4's Desert Island Discs and the annual Mercury Music Prize.

9. Alan Shearer (£390,000-£394,999)

Former England and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer is a co host for Match Of The Day as well as a pundit for the Premier League and FA Cup.

2018/2019 earnings: £440,000-£444,999

10. Stephen Nolan - £390,000-£394,999

Stephen Nolan hosts The Nolan Show on Radio Ulster, Nolan Live on BBC One (Northern Ireland) and The Stephen Nolan Show on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Ken Bruce hosts Radio 2's Mid Morning Show, Eurovision Song Contest and Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park.

12. Emily Maitlis - £370,000-£374,999

Emily Maitlis heads up BBC Newsnight, as well as BBC documentaries and election programmes.

14. Andrew Marr - £360,000-£364,999

The political commentator hosts The Andrew Marr Show, Radio 4's Start the Week, plus various documentaries for BBC One and election night specials.

15. Scott Mills (£345,000-£349,999)

Host of BBC Radio One's The Scott Mills Show, Radio 5's The Scott Mills and Chris Stark Show.

16. George Alagiah (£325,000-£329,999)

BBC news anchor for BBC One News at Six and News at Ten. Yearly earnings have gone up by £10,000.

17. Jeremy Vine (£320,000-£324,999)

Jeremy Vine hosts a daily radio show on BBC Radio 2, and co presents election programmes. Estimated yearly earnings have increased by £30,000.

18. Nicky Campbell - £300,000-£304,999

Host of Radio 5 Live Breakfast Show and Your Call, Nicky Campbell's yearly estimted earnings have reduced by £40,000.

What is the gender pay gap row?

The gender pay gap is still an issue around the globe, and according to the World Economic Forum, it won’t close until 2186.

The European Commission has said the wage gap is the result of factors including education choices, job preference, work experience, breaks in employment, women's lower willingness to negotiate salaries and discrimination.

The Equal Pay Act was introduced by the UK Parliament in 1970 in a bid to combat the divide and was superseded by the Equality Act in 2010

But on average women still earn about 18 per cent less per hour than men.

This is an improvement, down from 28 per cent in 1993 and 23 per cent in 2003, but campaigners argue there is still a  long way to go.

Large businesses are required to report their gender pay gaps as of April 6 2017.

Companies with over 250 employees must publish the gender pay and gender bonus data of both males and females on the pay roll.
