Chilean wine La Moneda Reserva Malbec praised for 'creamy vanilla yogurt taste'
WINE experts have named the world’s best plonk – a £4 Malbec sold in Asda.
La Moneda Reserva was named best in its category at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards with judges praising its “creamy vanilla yogurt and pepper spice taste”.
And the Chilean booze – which is recommended for summer barbecues - is flying off the shelves of the supermarket chain for just £4.37 in a special offer.
It won best in show for single variety red wines under the price of £15.
The wine is usually priced at £5.75.
Ed Betts, Asda’s Wine Buying Manager said: “La Moneda Reserva Malbec is the perfect example of how we’re able to offer shoppers exceptional quality at low prices. It is a perfect match for barbecued meats.”
English wines stole the show at the awards with almost all of those entered receiving medals.
Two were given platinum gongs, including Kits Coty Estate, a Chardonnay from Chapel Down Estate in Kent, which won best white wine over £15.
Marks & Spencer has reported a 74 per cent increase in the sale of English white wines in recent months compared to the same period last year.
Its Chapel Down Sparkling Rose has seen sales rocket by more than 200 per cent.
