The MP for Devizes, Wilts, has apologised, claiming he “forgot”.

But he added: “If the person had reminded me instead of taking a photo and posting it on social media, I would have put on my mask.”

His criticism comes despite government telling Brits to snitch on those suspected of breaking Covid rules.

The photo was posted by Twitter user Edi, who wrote: “Don’t blame it on the young people, Boris, when your own party aren’t even following your rules.”

On September 7, Mr Kruger had told his constituents in a Facebook message that they “MUST wear a face covering” unless exempt.

In another post, on his own website, Mr Kruger, whose mother is Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith, said he “detests the Rule of Six, the compulsory face masks, the Covid Marshalls and the snooping on your neighbours”.

It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson prepares to announce new lockdown plans for England as coronavirus cases rise across Britain.
