KEIR BINS CORB

Keir Starmer sides with Tony Blair and says Jeremy Corbyn ‘deserved’ to lose election

SIR Keir Starmer has sided with “winner” Tony Blair and banished Jeremy Corbyn to the shadows of history.

A fiery party conference speech by the new Labour chief today infuriated Corbynistas by slamming those who “want to turn the clock back”.

He savaged the party for deserting its heartlands and failing to tackle anti-Semitism.

Sir Keir claimed Labour “deserved” to lose the election and declared: “It’s time to get serious about winning.”

Making his first conference speech as leader in Doncaster — delivered in a near-empty room due to Covid — he said: “In the 75 years since the historic victory of 1945, there have only been three Labour winners. I want to be the fourth.

“And when you look to 1945, 1964 and 1997, you learn an important lesson. The lesson is don’t look back, look to the future."

Knifing Mr Corbyn without naming him, Sir Keir said Labour must stop going on about “the past”.

He added: “Until we come out of the shadows, this party can’t change anything.

“Let’s be blunt. When you lose an election in a democracy, you deserve to.” Millions of “Red Wall” voters deserted Labour over Corbyn’s Britain-bashing rhetoric and support for convicted terrorists.

The Sun Says

SIR Keir Starmer shouldn’t just disown the anti-Semitic Corbynite mob which wrecked Labour — he should kick the lot out.

Withdraw the whip from Corbyn and the extremists still on his benches. Have an eye-catching purge now . . . not a civil war right before the 2024 election.

We doubt many ex-“Red Wall” voters heard Starmer’s big speech today. Nor would they be much convinced by him binning Corbynism for patriotism.

He backed the toxic hippie all the way to defeat last December. And his own love for the EU, and desperation to keep Britain in it in defiance of the Brexit-backing majority, was largely to blame.

That said, The Sun can only welcome a Labour regime which publicly embraces sound finances, security and flag-waving national pride, while alienating Momentum’s clueless posers.

How many of Starmer’s MPs, we wonder, TRULY share those shiny new values?

In a plea to them, Sir Keir said: “I want to win because of the country I love and because of the values I hold dear.”

He was introduced by Ruth Smeeth — a Jewish former Labour MP bullied by Corbynista anti-Semites.

She said: “It has been difficult to be Jewish in the Labour Party in recent years. But under Keir’s leadership, the trauma will begin to heal.”
