Woman survives 80ft plunge off cliffs after car smashes through railings
A young woman, 25, is in hospital with multiple serious injuries after being rescued by lifeboat in the sea
A CAR smashed through railings and plummeted 80ft over cliffs to the beach below leaving the driver with multiple injuries.
The 25-year-old driver discovered in the sea was rushed to hospital by ambulance after being picked up by a lifeboat.
She was found close to the Marsden Grotto pub in South Shields, South Tyneside, at 1.52am this morning.
The young woman was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the horrifying accident.
It triggered a massive response from emergency services including the coastguard and RNLI before paramedics were able to safely remove her from the car.

She was then taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by the North East Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called by the police at
1.50am and attended at 2.30am.
"We had one double crewed ambulance and four heart team members.
"It was a joint operation with the RNLI, police and fire service.
"The casualty was picked up by lifeboat and transferred to an inshore lifeboat at 3.30am.
"We picked her up from the South Shields ferry terminal at 3.41am and took her
to the RVI."
It is understood the woman remains in a stable condition in hospital.
