HOSPITAL ROLEX 'THIEF'

Nurse ‘stole £5k Rolex from wrist of dying granddad in hospital’

Joseph Miller given date to stand trial accused of theft

A NURSE has been accused of stealing a valuable Rolex watch off the wrist of a dying grandfather after he suffered a massive heart attack.

David Davies, 68, was rushed to hospital after suffering a severe heart attack and was taken through to the accident and emergency department where he was treated by medics.

Mr Davies was then taken through to the hospital’s resuscitation room in St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester where more members of staff battled to save his life.

Mr Davies later died but the Submariner Rolex watch, worth around £5,000, was missing.

This week Joseph Miller, 40, of Walberton, West Sussex, appeared at Worthing Magistrates accused of theft.

Dressed in a smart blue suit and tie, Miller refused to enter a plea at the 10 minute hearing and was released on bail.

The court heard that if found guilty Davies could face a prison sentence of around two years.

The case was committed for trial at Portsmouth Crown Court on July 11.

The Rolex watch was later recovered by police and was handed back to the bereaved family in March this year.
