Passengers evacuated from Heathrow Airport after ‘suspicious package’ found

PASSENGERS were today evacuated from Heathrow Airport after reports of a suspicious package.

Photographs show Terminal 2 being cleared with police vans outside with passengers huddled in the rain outside.

Heathrow Terminal 2 has been evacuated

A Heathrow spokesperson said: “Earlier today, our teams responded alongside Police to reports of a potentially suspicious item at Terminal 2.

“The item has been investigated and does not pose a safety risk.

“We thank those passengers whose journeys were temporarily disrupted for their patience, and can confirm that our operations are now back to normal.”

A Met Police spokesperson said they had been called just after midday to reports of a suspicious item.

They said: “The item is currently being investigated. The area is currently being evacuated as a precaution.”

One passenger tweeted: “Terminal 2 Heathrow evacuated due to security alert hundreds of passengers effected.”

He told The Sun Online: “We are still outside building search operations underway we are fine but hundreds of people open air in rain.”

Another added: “What’s happening at Terminal 2? All pax have been asked to evacuate the building. Pse clarify. Thanks.”
