Broadcaster Melvyn Bragg splits from wife of 43 years — for lover 16 years his junior

Lord Bragg calls it a day from wife after two alleged affairs, including the women he is now reportedly living with

BROADCASTER Melvyn Bragg has split from his wife of 43 years and moved in with a woman 16 years his junior, it was claimed last night.

Lord Bragg, 76,  and author Cate Haste, 70,  broke  up after he allegedly had two affairs, including one with the woman he is now said to be living with — Gabriel Clare-Hunt, 60.

He was suspected of  a fling with Ms  Clare-Hunt,   then a secretary at London Weekend Television, over 20 years ago.

Lord Bragg, who has hosted  The South Bank Show on ITV and Sky Arts for over 30 years, said yesterday: “Cate and I have agreed to an amicable separation.”
The pair have two  children — film-maker Alice, 38, and science journalist Tom, 36.
