Who will receive their stimulus checks first?

There are a few ways the IRS sends out money to Americans and the quickest way is via direct deposit set up on the agency’s website.

Direct Deposit recipients: People who already have their direct deposit information on file with the IRS or who provide that info when and if registration open again should be the first to receive their money.

You can sign up for direct deposit via the IRS' website by clicking .

Social Security beneficiaries: Just like the first stimulus payment, many Social Security beneficiaries who had direct deposit information on file with the federal government received checks in the first week.

People who wait for mail-in checks: The IRS began to mail checks about a week later to those without direct deposit data on file.

EIP card recipients: Economic Impact Payment debit cards are prepaid Visa card the IRS sent to about four million people starting in mid-May.

If the IRS follows the same steps as when the first stimulus package passed, this group could begin to see their checks weeks after the first direct deposit transfers go out.
