Boris Johnson backs BBC’s decision to order investigation into Princess Diana Panorama scandal
BORIS Johnson yesterday backed the BBC’s decision to order an independent investigation into the Princess Diana Panorama scandal.
Beeb director-general Tim Davie has promised an inquiry into allegations over how journalist Martin Bashir secured the bombshell 1995 interview with her.
And the PM said the move was “the right course of action”.
It came as the former graphic designer who mocked up fake bank statements for Bashir hit out at the BBC.

The false papers, drawn up by Matt Wiessler, were allegedly used by Bashir to lure Diana and her brother Earl Spencer into believing payments were being made to royal aides for information about the princess.
Mr Wiessler said he was later blacklisted by the corporation but he told Radio 4’s Today programme: “It’s a bit like blaming the pen for writing a nasty letter."
