Music lovers go into meltdown as streaming service suffers major global outage
Unexplained tech issue stops Spotify users from listening to tunes online
Spotify spent this afternoon scrabbling to fix a technical issue which stopped the music for vast numbers of people across the world.
The streaming music app admitted that its systems had been hit by "an issue", but refused to elaborate further.
Users were unable to access streaming music, meaning they can only listen to songs they have already stored on their device.
Spotify runs two Twitter accounts dedicated to supporting customers. Both issued tweets admitting the problem.
According to the website Down Detector, the issue affected users in Britain, Europe and the east coast of the USA. It started at about 3pm today and was fixed by 3.35pm.
Spotify then gave music fans the all clear in another tweet.
Hundreds of Spotify fans took to Twitter to vent their rage at the outrageous outage.
Some people took the problems in the stride, whilst others appeared to suggest their working lives would be affected by the technical problems.
Today has been a pretty rubbish day for the internet, with Youtube also suffering an outage that stopped people watching videos for a whole ten minutes.
Despite the brevity of the technical issue, people went into meltdown as they realised they'd have to find another way to entertain themselves.
People who visited Youtube were shown this message:
"Sorry, something went wrong.
"A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation."
