Bungling MoD staff use photo of French soldier in post about British army funding

BUNGLING MoD staff used a snap of a French soldier in a post about funding for the British military.

The image on Facebook to mark the £16.5billion budget hike for our Armed Forces came with a quote from the Chief of the Defence Staff.

General Sir Nick Carter boasted: “Our people are at the heart of what we do.”

But no one in the photo worked for the MoD.

In the foreground was a French soldier wearing distinctive camouflage fatigues and carrying a French FAMAS assault rifle.

And there were eight soldiers in the background also in French uniforms.

The MoD only realised the gaffe when it was mocked on social media.

They then replaced the image with one of British airborne gunners.

Sources said the first image was of Exercise Wessex Storm, where French and British troops were training on Salisbury Plain, Wilts.

The MoD confirmed a “photo from a UK-France exercise was used before an alternative image posted”.

Ironically, the MoD is advertising for a new chief publicity chief, who will be on a £120,000 salary.
