Yellen graduated summa cum laude from Brown University with a degree in economics in 1967 and received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 1971 with a concentration in economics.
She was the first female to be the Federal Reserve chair from 2014 to 2018.
She became an adviser to Joe Biden's campaign after leaving the Fed.
She also became a distinguished fellow in residence at the liberal Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.
During her tenure as Fed chair, the central bank shifted much of its policy focus from fighting inflation to maximizing employment.
